CONCORD, NC – RIS – Chase Briscoe will start first the second time this season, Chase Briscoe has won the pole in the NASCAR Cup Series. He beat Kyle Larson for the honor. When the Coca-Cola 600 goes green on Sunday, Briscoe will be the one leading the field. Joe Gibbs Racing has a great No. 19 Toyota. He beat Kyle Larson, which is no mere feat. Briscoe now has four career poles, two this season. How about Briscoe having the pole for the Daytona 500 and the Coca-Cola 600 in the same season? How many drivers can say that?
Briscoe continues to slowly get comfortable in his No. 19 ride. Taking over a car that used to belong to a future Hall of Famer like Martin Truex Jr. is not easy. This is his big opportunity in the Cup Series, though. If he can get the momentum going, multiple win seasons shouldn’t be out of the question.
Larson was only two-thousandths from taking the pole from Briscoe. It would have been phenomenal if Larson could put it on the pole for his Double Duty attempt. However, starting on the front row will have to be good enough for him.
Several promising drivers had rough days trying to get speed on the Charlotte Track. Including 18-year-old Connor Zilisch. He will start P33 in his oval debut in the Cup Series.
