Kyle Larson Wins Xfinity Race in Overtime

FORT WORTH, TX -RIS – Kyle Carson took the lead in overtime and went on to win the NASCAR Xfinity race at Texas Motor Speedway.  The victory is his second of the season in the Xfinity Series. Larson drove the No. 88 for JR Motorsports in place of the injured Connor Zilisch, who suffered a back injury in a last-lap crash a week ago at Talladega Superspeedway. Larson overcame a penalty for an uncontrolled tire on Lap 49 to win.

Taylor Gray finished a career-best second. Riley Herbst placed third, followed by Austin Hill and Sam Mayer.

The 208-lap race was slowed 11 times for 62 laps by cautions. Twenty four of the 38 cars were involved in accidents, the most in a Texas Xfinity race.

Justin Allgaier was among the victims. He couldn't avoid the slower car of Kris Wright and hit him in the rear, sending Allgaier into the wall and out of the race after leading 99 laps and winning a stage. Allgaier finished 35th.

Justin Algaier won the first stage and Austin Hill won the second stage.

The 208-lap race was slowed 11 times for 62 laps by cautions. Twenty four of the 38 cars were involved in accidents, the most in a Texas Xfinity race.

Larson led 32 of the 208 laps, and his No. 88 JR Motorsports Chevrolet was 1.265 seconds ahead at the checkered flag. His win in the Andy’s Frozen Custard 300 was his second at the 1.5-mile Fort Worth track, his second of the Xfinity season and the 17th of his Xfinity series career.

Allgaier led three times for a race-high 99 laps, but his dominance was curbed in a final-stage crash that left him 35th in the 38-car field. Allgaier had just brought his No. 7 JR Motorsports Chevrolet to pit road for what was scheduled to be his final stop, but he collided with the slower No. 5 Chevy of Kris Wright in the middle of Turn 4 with 45 laps remaining. Allgaier’s No. 7 crunched the outside retaining wall and skidded to a stop in the frontstretch grass. Both drivers were unhurt.

The Xfinity Series’ next race is the Bet MGM 300, scheduled for Saturday, May 24 (4:30 p.m. ET.)
