Kyle Larson Wins the NASCAR Cup Race at Homestead

HOMESTEAD, FL – RIS – The favorite to win the NASCAR Cup race at Miami Homestead came through with a pass with six laps to go that sealed the win for Kyle Larson.  Larson soared to victory in Sunday’s NASCAR Cup Series race, bypassing teammate Alex Bowman late at Homestead-Miami Speedway for his 30th career Cup win.

Larson led only 19 of the 267 laps in Sunday’s Straight Talk Wireless 400, driving  the No. 5 Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet to his first victory of the 2025 season and his second win at the 1.5-mile South Florida track.

Pole-sitter Bowman drove home in second place in the No. 48 Chevrolet, taking the checkered flag 1.205 seconds behind his Hendrick teammate. Bubba Wallace wound up third for 23XI Racing, with Joe Gibbs Racing teammates Chase Briscoe and Denny Hamlin completing the top five in that order.

“It was Just a couple of mistakes there. I felt like we were OK all day. That last run was probably the best we were but hats off to (this team)" Bowman said. ”I hate it for (Rick) Hendrick. Congrats to Kyle and we'll try to get another win this week."

Ryan Blaney led a race-high 124 laps, but finished 36th in the 37-car field after the engine on his No. 12 Team Penske Ford expired in a cloud of smoke after 207 laps. Blaney was running third at the time but left Homestead with his third DNF in as many weeks.

Christopher Bell, who leads the series with three victories this season, placed 29th after a Lap 70 spin and slight contact in his No. 20 Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota. Josh Berry — last week’s first-time winner at Las Vegas — ended up 17th, continuing after contact with Larson and Joey Logano led to a pit-road spin during the Stage 1 break.

Larson’s win fell short of the triple win expected.  He had wated to win the Craftsman Truck Series race on Friday night and the Xfinity race on Saturday to complete the triple, and he almost did it.  Only a restart in overtime denied him the win.

Next weekend, we head to Martinsville, Virginia at the half-mile Short track.
