Reddick Punches Ticket to the NASCAR Cup Final Four at Homestead

HOMESTEAD, FL – RIS – Tyler Reddick passed Ryan Blaney on the last lap to win the NASCAR Cup race at Homestead-Miami Speedway on Sunday.  Reddick went high and overtook Ryan Blaney on the final turn to win and  secure a spot in NASCAR’s winner-take-all finale in Arizona in two weeks. Reddick led 98 of the 267 laps, the last of them the one that mattered most.

Reddick loves the Homestead track, and his favorite part of the place is turns 3 and 4 — the last two turns. He might like them even more now, since that was the stretch of track that got him a title shot in a thrilling finish.

“Took a risk and it paid off,” Reddick said. “I don’t know what else really to say. ... When the moment’s right, you can do some pretty crazy stuff over there.”

Reddick’s move at the end was the 33rd lead change of the day, a Homestead record. Blaney was second and Denny Hamlin — a part-owner of Reddick’s car was third. Playoff drivers took the top six spots, with Christopher Bell fourth, Chase Elliott fifth and William Byron sixth.

Despite finding himself on a different strategy from the race leaders on the final round of pit stops, which put him on older tires than the field on the final restart of the race, the 28-year-old driver of the No. 45 Toyota Camry XSE for 23XI Racing, a team co-owned by NBA Legend Michael Jordan and NASCAR Cup Playoff contending driver Denny Hamlin, didn't give up.

With one lap to go, Reddick found himself stuck in the third position behind race leader Ryan Blaney, and his team owner Hamlin. If Reddick wanted any chance of winning the race, he'd have to quickly work his way around Hamlin. He was able to do that in Turns 1 and 2.

Would the car stick on that final lap?  It did.  Reddick would blow by Blaney, who looked to be marching toward a defense of his 2023 NASCAR Cup Series title. Blaney will have to try to pull that off next weekend at Martinsville Speedway as Sunday's race at Homestead-Miami Speedway belonged to Reddick.
