Bowman Out, Logano Takes His Place

CONCORD, NC - RIS - Sunday’s surprising news that Alex Bowman’s No. 48 Chevrolet had been DQ’d after the Cup Race on Sunday.  The cost was dear for driver Alex Bowman and Hendrick Motorsports.  The team thought that all four Hendrick cars had qualified for the next round of the playoffs, but the disqualification now pushes Joey Logano into the final round of the playoffs.

Logano, who had lamented not making the playoofs had this to say:

“NASCAR, man. Expect the unexpected,” Logano said Tuesday. “You just roll with the punches and go with the flow and just continue on. I feel like these days, more and more, there are just crazy things that can happen. I just go with it."

NASCAR found Bowman’s Chevrolet  was  underweight.  NASCAR gave them ample time to add fuel and other fluids, and it was still underweight. Hendrick Motorsports did not appeal the decision.

“Pretty embarrassed by it and very disappointing after what was looking like a historical day and one of the most exciting days that we’ve had at the racetrack, being a home race and everything and celebrating in Victory Lane and then all four (advancing to the next round) and that all got wiped away,” Jeff Gordon, a HMS officer said.

Now, the Cup Series heads to Las Vegas for the first race for the field of eight, which now includes Joey Lagano.
