Riggs Doubles-up With Bristol Truck Victory

Riggs and crew celebrate consecutive wins

(BRISTOL, TN – SEP 19, 2024 – RIS) Layne Riggs waited until the final stage of the UNOH 200 Truck series race at Bristol to show his hand, moving out to a lead of over a second ahead of Corey Heim and Rajah Caruth in taking his second consecutive win in the season. Riggs is a full-time student in Mechanical Engineering at UNC-Charlotte and will graduate in December.

Connor Zilisch moved into the lead ahead of William Sawalich on the start, with Corey Heim quickly taking second from Sawalich. Rajah Caruth took third after 30 laps, as Heim closed on Zilisch with traffic starting to play a part in track position. Heim moved around the pole winner for the lead on lap 42, with Caruth challenging for second.

A slower truck forced Zilisch to lift and Car then took second, then moved around Heim to take the lead of the race approaching the end of the first stage, taking his first career stage win in the series. Heim ran second, with Christian Eckes getting around Zilisch and Nick Sanchez fifth at the end of the stage.

Heim moved into the lead at the restart, easily getting around Timmy Hill, who stayed on the track instead of pitting to lead briefly. 

Heim, Eckes, Caruth, Riggs and Sanchez headed the second stage when Zilisch got tapped by Sanchez and spun out of fifth place to end the stage under caution. Zilisch lost a lap in getting turned around and restarted as the first car a lap down.

Layne Riggs moved into the lead at the restart, getting around Heim and moving out to a lead of almost half a straightaway.

Contact between Daniel Dye and Kayden Honeycutt brought out the third caution of the race on lap 156. Riggs, Hei, Caruth, Eckes and Crafton held the top five positions at the restart, with some shuffling of positions while Riggs moved out to a lead of almost a second in less than ten laps before Jack Wood spun to cause the fourth yellow flag in the race.

Riggs again moved out to a comfortable lead, winning ahead of the side-by-side pair of Corey Heim and Rajah Caruth, who finished just inches apart. Christian Eckes ran fourth and Nick Sanchez fifth. “We have just learned so much,” said Riggs after the race. Man this track is just so much fun,” said Riggs.
