NASCAR Penalizes Dillon, RCR and Logano After Richmond
(DAYTONA BEACH, FL – AUG 14, 2024 – RIS) NASCAR announced that penalties will be levied against Austin Dillon, RCR and Dillon’s spotter after the bump and run finish at Richmond Sunday evening. Joey Logano was also fined $50,000, apparently for his comments following the race which saw him knocked out of the lead by Dillon as they approached the checkered flag.
Dillon’s penalties include the assessment of 25 driver and owner points but more importantly in the approach to the playoffs for the championship, “The race finish will not count when determining eligibility for the Playoffs, Playoff points, or Playoff seeding.” This drops the No. 3 car out of the running for the Playoffs with only three races remaining in the regular season.
In addition to the driver and owner penalties, Dillon’s spotter, Brandon Benesch, has been suspended for the next three points races, ending after the Darlington Labor Day weekend race.
Logano's penalty is listed as: Behavioral under Sections 4.4.B&D: NASCAR Member Conduct.
The RCR and Dillon penalties are listed as behaviorable under the same section and 10.1 A: General Procedure; 12.3.2.1 B: Eligibility, with "Team assessed with the loss of 25 driver and owner points. The race finish will not count when determining eligibility for the Playoffs, Playoff points, or Playoff seeding."
The Benesch suspension is listed as under Sections 4.4.B&D: NASCAR Member Conduct; 10.1 A: General Procedure.
