Brenden "Butterbean" Queen at the media day at North Wilkesboro Speedway

(NORTH WILKDSBORO, NC – MAY 17, 2024 – RIS) Brenden “Butterbean” Queen, winner of last year’s CARS Tour race at North Wilkesboro Speedway’s  up and downhill oval, jumped to the top of the practice chart for the Wright Brand 250 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race. Queen’s best time was his 29th of 30 laps, at 17.911 seconds and 125.621 mph. Qualifying and the truck race will be held Saturday.

Stewart Friesen’s North Wilkesboro weekend started with a windshield full of hood as his hood flew up as the truck entered the first turn. A few minutes later, his crw had fastened it properly and he returned to the track with little or no damage apparent.

North Wilkesboro Speedway’s new pavement proved to be as good as promised and the media pace car rides Monday showed, with lap times well ahead of the old qualifying record of 19.295 sec and 116.611 mph early in the session with Corey Heim setting the early mark of 18.442 sec and 122.004 mph before the track went under a yellow flag for fluids on the surface from Ross Chastain’s truck which snapped the pinion in the rear axle. Grand Enfinger was next at 18.464 with Jack Wood’s time identical to Enfinger’s. Dawson Sutton and Brenden Queen, winner of last year’s CARS Tour race was fifth at the time of the caution.

Speeds kept climbing as the session continued, with Brenden Queen jumping to the top of the chart as the first truck under 18 seconds, recording a lap of 17.911 sec and 125.621 mph. Shortly after this, Heim joined the late model star in the ‘17s’ at a 17.950/125.348 mph.
