Allgaier Wins Martinsville Race to Punch his Ticket to the Championship Four

MARTINSVILLE, VA – RIS – In a wild race to determine who sill race for the 2023 Xfinity championship, It was Justin Allgaier who goes on to race for a championship in the NASCAR Xfinity Series.  The JR Motorsports driver won for the first time at Martinsville Speedway and locked up a spot in the championship 4. He joined fellow race-winners Sam Mayer and John Hunter Nemechek in the Championship 4. Cole Custer also pointed his way into the Championship 4 despite finishing 19th with a car on fire.

Austin Hill and Sheldon Creed were both eliminated from championship contention, as was Sammy Smith. Chandler Smith had been eliminated from contention early in the race after his engine expired., Creed, Sammy Smith, and Chandler Smith all needed to win to reach the Championship 4. Hill could have pointed his way in. He finished 21st after crashing at the start-finish line and missed out by seven points.

Custer flirted with elimination all night.  At one point he was 6 points to the good, but the racing got rough and he got into the Championship four in the end. Sheldon Creed finished second, Sammy Smith finished third with Riley Herbst AND Josh Berry rounding out the top5.

“We’ve got a shot at going for a championship at Phoenix,” Allgaier said after the race. “My wife drove in today, my daughter’s last softball game was this afternoon. She said, ‘I got to watch the first win,’ and she decided to come here to be by my side. There’s nothing like it.

“This is an emotional one. I’ve wanted to win at Martinsville for a long time and, man, I’ve been on the other end of that too many times.”
