Enfinger Tops Indy Truck Race

(BROWNSBURG, IN – 29 JULY, 2022 – RIS) John Hunter Nemechek drove off into the lead over Chandler Smith, winner of the ARCA race just finished. The pair opened a lead of over a second ahead of third place Grant Enfinger before Josh Reaume and Spencer Boyd spun with Boyd’s truck hitting the wall, then stopping with an under-hood blaze quickly attended to by the AMR team.

Reaume spun again on lap 30, this time backing into the Turn Four wall. Nemechek and Smith continued their leading ways, with Smith dropping a second back from Nemechek. Nemechek went on to top the first stage by three-tenths of a secondover Smith, with Carson Hocevar, Stewart Friesen and Grant Enfinger the top five after 60 laps.

Nemechek lost a handful of positions in the pits with Hocevar and Smith at the front of the field for the restart before Blake Lothian pulled to a stop in the second turn to cause a quick caution.

Hocevar and Enfinger led the pack with the pair running side by side and nose to tail with Nemechek running third but remaining about a second behind the lead duo.

Enfinger finally made the pass after a long battle, with Chandler Smith passing Nemechek for third then Nemechek spun while passing the lapped truck of Chris Wright after dipping his left-side tires into the grass, with a cloud of tire smoke obscuring vision but nobody hit any other trucks.

Chandler Smith led, after staying on track but Ty Majeski quickly overtook him for the lead.

Majeski used fresh tires to win the second stage, his second of the season, as Dean Thompson spun to bring out a caution as the leaders approached the end of the stage. Chandler Smith and Zane Smith came together and hit the wall, damaging both trucks as the stage ended.

Majeski and Enfinger led Hocevar and Friesen at the restart, with Friesen moving into third, with Nemechek moving around Hocevar to assume fourth position before debris in the fourth turn caused a short caution.

Majeski, Enfinger, Friesen and Nemechek led to the restart. Lawless Alan was the loser in a four-wide gaggle that sent him spinning into the inside wall to bring out the eighth caution of the night.

Majeski and Enfinger led again, with Nemechek showing more speed than in earlier laps, with Friesen and Ben Rhodes in fourth and fifth after Rhodes drew an earlier penalty for speeding on pit road.

Enfinger and Majeski held the top pair of positions until Colby Howard got spun out of eighth place by Carson Hocevar to start a caution with ten laps left in the race.

The race went green with three laps to run but Taylor Gray got spun out by Nemechek before the white flag flew, apparently when Nemechek got loose entering the fourth turn and tapped Gray. The rules mean that Nemechek was leading for the restart, followed by Zane Smith, Tyler nkrum, Grant Enfinger and Layne Riggs as the field approached the overtime restart.

Enfinger led Smith under the white flag and Ben Rhodes moved into second, followed by Zane Smith, Stuart Friesen and Corey Heim in the top five finishers.

The victory is Enfinger’s first since Martinsville two years ago.

“We’re finally moving forward at all. This is the first laps we’ve led since Atlanta,” admitted Enfinger. “It’s a special night.”
