Justin Allgaier Ends Chevy Win Drought at New Hampshire

LOUDON, NH – RIS – Justin Allgaier took 48 laps to get to the front and lead, but after that it was “all Allgaier”. The NASCAR Xfinity Series star wished his wife Asley a happy birthday when interviewed after the race. It had been a long time since a Chevrolet Camaro had won in the series on the flat one-mile track, but several Camaros gave appearances at the front with finally the No.7 Camaro the winner at the end.  It was his third victory of the season in Saturday’s NASCAR Xfinity Series race at New Hampshire Motor Speedway.

Allgaier led 46 laps on the day. Part-time driver Trevor Bayne ended the day as the runner-up in the No. 18 Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota. Landon Cassill placed third and Noah Gragson recovered from a Stage 2 spin to take fourth. Brandon Brown netted a season-best fifth.

The race had many crashes on the way to the end.    The race was red-flagged with 125 laps complete after contact between the cars of Sheldon Creed and pole winner Josh Berry sparked a multicar stack-up exiting Turn 2. Myatt Snider, Ryan Sieg, Jeb Burton and Riley Herbst all piled in behind Berry’s spinning No. 8 Chevrolet, with Sieg’s No. 39 entry vaulting up after heavy contact from Burton’s No. 27.

The Toyotas had some problems.  Ty Gibbs led twice for 49 laps, but lost ground after an extended pit stop for repairs to a brake issue on his No. 54 Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota. He finished 23rd, four laps down. In the end, attrition in the race left Bayne in second place, but he could not run down Allgaier.  The former Daytona 500 champion has been sharing the No. 18 Toyota with others on his effort to get back into racing.

Notable was Julia Landauer placed last in the 38-car field in her Xfinity Series debut, completing just 90 laps after involvement in a pair of crashes with her No. 45 Alpha Prime Racing Chevrolet. Contact with the No. 7 Chevy of Allgaier on Lap 34 sent her car spinning into the inside retaining wall, and a Lap 98 tangle with Matt Mills left Landauer’s car with terminal damage.  Allgaier apologized after the race in his on-track interview for being involved in her exit

The next race for the NASCAR Xfinity Series is one week from today at Pocono Raceway, known as “The Tricky Triangle”.  It will once again be televised on the USA cable network and will start at 5 PM.
