Parker Klingerman Wins Truck Race at Mid-Ohio

LEXINGTON, OH – RIS – What a difference a day makes.  Yesterday’s qualifying was held in a driving rain.  Today’s race had sunny skies and Parker Klingerman held off Zane Smith in a nine-lap battle to win the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course on Saturday.  The win was the third of his career.

A battle with Smith for several laps was classic and a proof that you can race clean and still have a great finish.  Both drivers drove hard, but not bumping each other to get an advantage.  Smith was fastest in practice but finished second in the end.

Klingerman led 56 of the 67 laps on the 2.258-mile circuit, taking the O’Reilly Auto Parts 150 by a 0.119-second margin of victory in his Henderson Motorsports No. 75 Chevrolet. His first win of the season was his first at Mid-Ohio.

Smith’s close second in the Front Row Motorsports No. 38 Ford, padding his lead in the series standings. Carson Hocevar came home third with Stewart Friesen fourth and Christian Eckes completing the top five.

Klingerman led 17 of 20 laps to take the Stage 1 win. Smith edged Klingerman for the Stage 2 victory, inching past him in the segment’s final lap.

Pole-starter Corey Heim led three laps from the start and remained solidly among the top five until his No. 51 Kyle Busch Motorsports Toyota lost power with seven laps left. That teed up a final restart with three laps remaining.

Trackhouse Racing co-owner Justin Marks made his first start in the series since 2018. Marks — a former Mid-Ohio winner in Xfinity Series competition — placed 31st in the 36-truck field, exiting early after his No. 41 Niece Motorsports crashed into the Turn 4 tire barrier with 18 laps remaining.

The Camping World Truck Series’ next race is scheduled July 23rd at noon at Pocono Raceway.
