Joey Logano Gains Truck Series Pole on Bristol Dirt

(BRISTOL, TN - APRIL 16, 2022 - RIS) Joey Logano and Ben Rhodes will lead the field to the start of the second Pinty's Truck Race on Dirt at Bristol Motor Speedway's dirt track surface. Logano and Rhodes finished one-two in the fourth and final heat race, earning enough passing points to start in that order in Saturday night's race.

Truck Qualifying Race One: Austin Dillon started on pole in a truck repaired from yesterday's incident in practice, flanked by Tanner Gray. Dillon pulled into the lead while Buddy Kofoid moved up from ninth on the start to fourth in just a couple of laps. Just before the ten lap mark, Gray pulled off with water venting from the overflow, followed by Kofoid, both trucks with their radiator screens blocked by mud from leading trucks. 

Dillon went on to win the race by just over a second ahead of Parker Kligerman, followed by Colby Howard, Andrew Gordon and Austin Wayne Self in the top five positions.

The second qualifying race saw Ty Majeski and Carson Hocevar in front, with Majeski also pulling out a lead while the trailing trucks's grilles grew progressively blocked by mud but not to the extent as in the first heat race. Majeski, Hocevar, Matt Crafton, Tyler Ankrum and Tate Fogleman ran top five at the checker, with nobody dropping out with heating problems in this race.

Qualifying Race Three started out with Kaz Grala on pole, flanked by Grant Enfinger and Joey Logano started sixth. Christian Eckes and Hailie Deegan dropping to the back of the field from the second row after moving to a backup truck for damage suffered in a spin during practice. Deegan showed off her dirt skills by moving up to sixth in just five laps as Grala faded to fourth with Grand Enfinger and Joey Logano running one-two. Deegan spun to bring out the first caution of the race. "The truck turns good, just a little too good on me" she reported to the crew. Logano drove by Enfinger for the lead at the restart, with Rhodes putting pressure on Enfinger for second. Rhodes barely got ahead of Enfinger at the checker to capture second behind Logano at the checker with Deegan getting into the feature race with her seventh-place finish.

Dean Thompson and Chandler Smith ran the front row to the green in the fourth qualifying race. Derek Kraus and Chase Elliott filled the second row with Spencer Boyd and John Hunter Nemechek the third row. Married couple Stewart and Jessica Friesen started next to each other in the last row but Friesen quickly advanced to fourth in just five laps. Smith held off every challenge from Elliott to win the qualifier but Jessica Friesen finished one position out of qualifying for the feature race.
