Ty Gibbs Win Fourth Xfinity Race at Kansas

KANSAS CITY, KS – RIS – Ty Gibbs won his fourth race of an abbreviated season by taking the checkers at Kansas Speedway in playoff race on Saturday. Gibbs passed playoff driver and defending series champion Austin Cindric with 11 laps remaining in the 200-lap Kansas Lottery 300 at the 1.5-mile oval. It’s the fourth time in the five postseason races so far that a non-playoff driver has gone to Victory Lane.

Gibbs, grandson of team owner Joe Gibbs, took advantage of a late caution to make up distance on the final run and was able to beat playoff leader Austin Cindric to the finish line.

Cindric held on for second place, followed by regular-season champion AJ Allmendinger, Justin Haley and Ryan Sieg. Brett Moffitt, Michael Annett, Sam Mayer, Justin Allgaier and Myatt Snider rounded out the top 10.

The late caution mentioned earlier came with 21 laps remaining.  With Cindric leading and Gibbs nearly a straightaway back, Noah Gragson and Harrison Burton crashed on the frontstretch. Sam Mayer, driver of the No. 8 JR Motorsports Chevrolet and Gragson’s teammate, tagged Burton in the left rear, sending Burton into Gragson’s No. 9 Chevrolet and into the outside wall. Both Gragson and Burton were unable to continue in the race.

Gragson was also involved in an incident on Lap 97 when he made contact with back bumper of the No. 18 Joe Gibbs Racing driver of Daniel Hemric, another playoff driver, on the exit of Turn 2. Hemric spun, hitting the right front of Gragson. Hemric received right-front damage as a result.  Hemric finished 15th and Gragson 35th.  Gragson fins himself 24 points below the elimination line. Hemic still has a seven point cushion.

A.J. Allmendinger won the first stage and Cindric the second. They are tied in points until the final race before the championship race at Phoenix, Arizona in two weeks. Next up for the Xfinity Series is the Round of 8 finale at Martinsville Speedway on Oct. 30 at 6 p.m. ET
