PUTNAMVILLE, IN -RIS- The fifth race in this years “Indiana Sprint Week” series was one that produced the first repeat winner of the year as Brady Bacon brought the Hoffman car home a winner as he had in Lawrenceburg in race three. Brady lead all but one lap, lap 13 when Jerry Coons Jr. got a nose in front for a lap on a restart before Bacon retook control. Bacon ran the bottom of the corners all night as did Coons while Kevin Thomas Jr. ran the top and took second late in the race as the top became better.
“It’s no secret that this place has had our number, but we’ve worked and worked and tried everything we could think of to try to make this car better here. We measured and cut on this car, and my Hoffman guys are just tireless workers who always put in the effort to get us better. I had one bad lap on the restart where my line had gone away some and the bottom was worked in enough for Jerry to sneak under me. I just got back after him and hit my marks to keep it out front after that,” Bacon said.
The lap 13 restart was needed after a flip by Jake Swanson. It was a disappointing end to Jake's first feature start in sprint week for Moose Racing. He was running in the top ten at the time. Nether Jake or the “Moosemobile” were badly damaged and the California team was busy making ready for the next race at the end of the night.
Brady Short came from 22nd to finish fifth and earn himself the B&W Auto Mart “Hard Charger Award” in the Pottorff Logging – Sipe’s Body & Glass #11P Maxim/SPEC.
The Putnamville results both tightened the series points battle leaving Robert Ballou ahead by a single point over Brady Bacon, and established it as a two man race as Ballou and Bacon lead third place Kevin Thomas Jr. by more than 28 points. Baring disastrous finished in the final two races it looks to be out of reach for all but the top two.
Race six of the “Indiana Sprint Week” series is at Bloomington Speedway Friday night.
