Rains Nag NHRA Four-Wide Friday
NHRA Friday Falls to Mother Nature
(CONCORD, NC – MARCH 27, 2015 – RIS) Rain showers lasting through most of the day resulted in NHRA cancelling Friday's qualifying round and only two rounds slated for Saturday's on-track action. Even nine jet-engined driers couldn't get the track readied for competition in the face of persistent rain and mist conditions. Weather forecasts for the remainder of the weekend promise sunny skies with high temperatures in the mid-50s both days, so speeds and times on the brand-new pavement may be record-breaking.
Track action starts at 8:00 with Stock classes, followed by the sportsman groups.
Preceding the Pro classes, NHRA's Jr Dragsters will make an exhibition run with Pro Stock Motorcycle opening the Pro sessions at a 1:15 starting time. Three hours later, the second round of Pro classes takes to the track, followed by a final full round of Sportsman runs.
Fans with Friday tickets can present their ticket stub for a 100 percent credit toward Saturday or Sunday tickets, tickets to the 2015 NHRA Carolina Nationals in September or Friday of the 2016 NHRA 4-Wide Nationals.
In other news from the day, Don Schumacher Racing announced a marketing partnership that makes Pennzoil "The Official Oil Technology of DSR" in a multiyear agreement.
Pennzoil's logo will debut this weekend during the Four-Wide NHRA Nationals at zMAX Dragway near Charlotte Motor Speedway as a major associate on DSR's 2015 Dodge Charger R/T Funny Car driven by two-time and reigning world champion Matt Hagan along with having a presence on DSR's six other race cars.
"We are very excited to be associated with Pennzoil and bring them back out to NHRA Mello Yello drag racing," said Don Schumacher, who has won 240 NHRA event titles and 13 NHRA world championships after he founded DSR in 1998. As a pioneer Funny Car driver/owner in the late 1960s and early 1970s, the Chicago native won five NHRA event titles.
"Pennzoil has proven to be a product consumers have relied on for nearly a century and has such a long and successful history in motorsports, and we are proud to become part of that tradition."
