Lake Elsinore Motorsports Park - Track Introduction
Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series
April 21-22, 2012 will mark the return of Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series action to the all-new Lake Elsinore Motorsports Park in Lake Elsinore, CA. Construction is being completed on the challenging .9-mile long dirt short course. All-new track amenities will include a purpose-built grandstand complete with luxury sky boxes, race control tower, eagle's nest spotter tower, VIP track-side RV parking and a front stretch hot pit so the fans can see all the action.
Lake Elsinore enjoys a long heritage of off road racing tradition dating back to the 1960's when competitors raced through the city streets and surrounding area in the legendary Lake Elsinore Grand Prix, made famous by the late actor Steve McQueen, in the 1971 cult documentary movie, "On any Sunday". The new Lake Elsinore Motorsports Park will also host the season finale of the 2012 Lucas Oil AMA Outdoor National Championship.
The newly designed track is a technically demanding circuit which will put an emphasis on the driver's vehicle control. With the pace varying from low speed hairpins to the wide-open run down the back straight at speeds approaching 100 mph, this track has a collection of daring obstacles including a signature 30-foot high tabletop step-up jump, the corkscrew-style decreasing elevation turn and the big air ski jump that launches the top trucks 20 feet up and 120 feet through the air. There is no rest for the drivers on this action-packed course.
Corry Weller, driver of the new Tilted Kilt PRO-4 machine, was lucky enough to run some hot laps around the new track and she shared her thoughts on Race-Dezert.com "Starting on the front stretch you can get huge air off of the two front straight table tops, with the second one launching you into the turn 1 sweeper. The ski jump step-up table top coming off the long, high speed back straight is my favorite jump because it's all about timing and control. After landing that 30-foot high jump you drop down into the corkscrew turn 2, it's an incredible section. Then the big table before the next right-hander is going to be a fan favorite too, we'll be airing it out over that jump! The 10 pack rhythm section is an excellent passing zone as long as you can carry your speed through there and get set up for turn 4 early to get maximum drive for the run down the front straight."
Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series Director, Tony Vanillo explained his perspective, "The new Lake Elsinore Off Road track was a joint effort on design this one in particular Forrest Lucas had his input along with the always talented Gary Hubert, even our CFO of the company Tom Fredrickson put his two cents in (no pun intended) Special attention was placed on this track in the areas of visibility, speed, action, passing and plenty of big air! The accommodations at this track will be like no other, working with the Nanci Family who are the new owners of the new MX park are a delight to work with, they have built the New Lake Elsinore MX Park to an unprecedented level like we have never seen before, it's almost resort like! It's a great fit for Lucas Oil and how we like to do things. You will be seeing us there a lot with the Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series, The Lucas Oil Regional So. Cal Series, and The Lucas Oil AMA Outdoors Series all being there."
