Mazda Backed-Series For NA-model Spec Miatas Expands To NB-Model Spec Miatas

Southlake, TX (January 8, 2020) – After a successful launch in 2017 that saw steadily growing fields of 1990-1997 NA Miatas, the Sportscar Vintage Racing Association (SVRA) Mazda Miata Heritage Cup will welcome 1999-2005 NB Miatas, creating a second podium, beginning in 2020. And there is one more special opportunity – SVRA is going to waive the entry fee for one marquee event to be held at Road America May 14-17.

SVRA - AL UNSER JR. ENTERS VROC PRO-AM AT VIR

 

Two-Time Indy 500 Champ Was The First SVRA Pro-Am Winner

Southlake, TX (September 12, 2019) – Indy car champion Al Unser, Jr. announced today that he is entering Sportscar Vintage Racing Association’s (SVRA) Vintage Race of Champions (VROC) Charity Pro-Am presented by Chopard Watch at Virginia International Raceway (VIR). Unser, who has always run at the front in previous VROC Charity Pro-Am races, joins a stellar field of legendary drivers reminiscent of the original IROC series. Many in the VROC field competed in IROC, including Unser and Bobby Labonte, both of whom became champions of that iconic series. The September 21 VROC Charity Pro-Am at VIR is the final event in the series and will decide the VROC B Production (BP) and A Production (AP) championships.

SVRA - LE MANS CHAMPS BRABHAM AND JONES ENTER VROC PRO-AM AT VIR

Stars of Indy Car, Top-Tier Sports Car Racing Are Expected to Charge To The Front

Southlake, TX (September 10, 2019) – Two champions of the Le Mans 24 Hours, Davy Jones and Geoff Brabham, have filed entries for Sportscar Vintage Racing Association’s (SVRA) Vintage Race of Champions (VROC) Charity Pro-Am presented by Chopard Watch at Virginia International Raceway. The September 21 Charity Pro-Am is the deciding round of the VROC series and both legendary drivers feel they have unfinished business. Jones is the points leader in the chase for the B Production (BP) championship and Brabham looked like a sure winner last month at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway round of the series before mechanical maladies with his A Production (AP) Corvette dashed his chances.

SVRA - RIBBS, SAID PREVAIL IN VROC CHARITY PRO-AM AT IMS

 

Indianapolis (August 3, 2019) – Willy T. Ribbs and Boris Said came away the big winners in the Vintage Race of Champions (VROC ) presented by Chopard Watch today at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway (IMS). Ribbs picked off the overall win in his Duntov-prepared 1969 Corvette A Production racer. It was his first Sportscar Vintage Racing Association pro-am win after seven tries. Said, the winner in B Production with Jim Caudle’s 1969 Corvette, now has a perfect record in VROC Charity Pro-Am races, having won in his only other appearance at Virginia International Raceway (VIR) last year.

Ribbs and his amateur teammate Ed Sevadjian ran at the front all day long, swapping the lead with the Legendary Motor Car 1969 Corvette of Peter Klutt and Geoff Brabham. Klutt led from the start, but was eclipsed by Sevadjian just before both cars headed to the pits for their mandatory five-minute stop for driver change. The black Duntov entry continued at the front for several laps with Ribbs at the wheel. After a dozen laps, Brabham found a shorter way around turn one and made the pass for the lead.

Former Truck Series Champions Add More NASCAR Muscle To VROC Field

Ribbs, Mike Skinner, and Geoff Brabham.

Southlake, TX (July 2, 2019) – Sportscar Vintage Racing Association (SVRA) today announced the top four contenders for its Vintage Race of Champions (VROC) Charity Pro-Am presented by Chopard Watch championship have filed entries for the next race at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Mike Skinner and Max Papis won the A Production and B Production class races respectively at the first race of the season at Road Atlanta in March. Geoff Brabham and Willy T. Ribbs, who scored podium finishes at Road Atlanta, are also in the running for Chopard luxury watches that will be awarded to series champions at Virginia International Raceway (VIR) in September.  The Brickyard Invitational has a new date for 2019, open to the public on August 3 & 4.

Three-Time Indy 500 Champ Set for Return To Racing in SVRA’s Pro-Am  

Southlake, TX (June 26, 2019) – The Sportscar Vintage Racing Association (SVRA) today announced that three-time Indianapolis 500 winner Johnny Rutherford has entered the second round of its 2019 Vintage Race of Champions (VROC) Charity Pro-Am championship series at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. The Brickyard Invitational has a new date for 2019, August 1-4.

“All of us at SVRA are honored to have Johnny, who I regard as one of the greatest open-wheel drivers ever to put on a helmet, return to wheel-to-wheel competition at our VROC race at Indy,” said SVRA CEO Tony Parella. “Indianapolis is where he built his hall-of-fame stature, so I can think of no greater venue for him to have another go at racing. Ribbs, Davey Hamilton, Lyn St. James and Max Papis have filed entries for Sportscar Vintage Racing Association’s (SVRA) first-ever Vintage Race of Champions (VROC) at Road Atlanta on March 29 and 30.  VROC builds on the success of the SVRA Charity Pro-Am races that began at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway in 2014. Other VROC Series races are planned for the Indianapolis Motor Speedway in August, and Virginia International Raceway in September. Plans call for two points championship trophies to be awarded – one for both an amateur and a professional racer.

These first entries set up a classic inter-disciplinary battle of titans reminiscent of the venerated original IROC series. SVRA officials report that champions from other fields, such as the various levels of NASCAR and sports car racing, will inevitably enter as well.
