FERRARI - Monaco GP - Race

Monaco Grand Prix
Montecarlo, 25th May 2014

Marco Mattiacci: “Historically, Monaco is an unpredictable Grand Prix and we are well aware there can be
thousands of variables here. If we had managed to keep that third place, it would have been a boost for the
entire team, but events beyond our control meant it was not to be. All of us are working flat out and I’m sure
that thanks to the great professionalism of the people around me, we will be able to improve day by day and get
back to being competitive in a short period of time. But above all, we must find a way to reach the ambitious
goals that Ferrari should be fighting for.”

Monaco Grand Prix Race

Race Notes:

Felipe Massa finished seventh whilst Valtteri Bottas race ended on lap 50 of 78 in the Monaco Grand Prix. Both drivers made strong starts and, despite two safety cars interrupting proceedings, looked in a strong position to collect a good points haul for the team following their pitstops. Felipe pushed hard to catch Button and capitalised on accidents between Magnussen and Raikkonen. Valtteri stopped on track following an issue related to the Power Unit. The cause is being investigated.

MONACO GP – RACE

DANIEL RICCIARDO, Finish Position: 3rd, Start Position: 3rd

“The race really came to life towards the end. It started off not so well and it’s a really short run to Turn 1, so that was frustrating. Then we got Seb due to his reliability and Kimi had a puncture and we sort of got back to where we were hoping to be. After the re-start we were just saving the tyres to the point that we could get to the end and then, with 20 laps to go, I thought they would be okay so I pushed. It was the first time in the whole race that I felt like I was really driving the car and we caught Lewis. It was fun but I couldn’t get him, so I have to say the race finished better than it started.”

Jean-Eric Vergne (STR9-04)

Position: DNF

"The race was going well, the pace was really encouraging, I was saving the tyres and the strategy looked like being the right one. Then, my engineer informed me about the drive-through penalty for "unsafe release" and finally we had the exhaust problem which definitely put an end to my race. It's such a shame! We had done a great job over the whole weekend, the team was able to give me a good car and I also performed well so I think a fifth place was possible today. Let's turn the page now and focus on the next race in Montreal, where I will again do everything I can to perform at my maximum, have another great qualifying session and score the so longed points."

Fernando Alonso: “Today’s result encapsulates the state of play this weekend and it’s more or less what we
expected, but I don't think it went badly, because we managed to stay ahead of rivals who have been front
runners so far, such as Williams and Force India and, most importantly, we are closer to the Red Bulls. We have
made more changes than usual here, because we were suffering with understeer and we had some problems
under braking and the car has improved a lot. Compared to what we expected, the tyres seem too hard and we
are struggling a lot to get them up to temperature..."

“I'm very happy with today’s Qualifying, certainly for myself but also for the guys, who have deserved some good results for all their hard work. To have both cars in the top ten is a great achievement for everybody. My last lap on the Super Softs was effected by the yellow flags but the first one was enough to secure P7, which is quite a good position to start the race tomorrow.  If we can put everything together, I’m confident we can finish in the points with both cars. I will definitely push to at least maintain my seventh position until the chequered flag.”

“I think I could have been closer to the front today and I don’t like it when that’s the case. I made a mistake in the last run in Q3; we were up and I thought it was going well, but then I made a mistake and lost the time I had made. Anyways, there’s no room for excuses here so I’ll just have to learn for next time. I would be disappointed not to finish on the podium tomorrow. I think we have the pace to hang with Mercedes, so hopefully we can at least get one of them off the line and maybe do something with strategy and give ourselves a real chance of taking a win.”

A case of slightly mixed fortunes for McLaren today.

Kevin drove beautifully throughout all three qualifying sessions, establishing himself in a solid eighth position in Q1, Q2 and Q3. A position in the top 10, after a couple of difficult races for the team, was a great reward for Kevin, and sets him up well for an attacking race tomorrow.

McLAREN F1 - Spanish GP - Friday Practice

After the cold temperatures in China last month, the Formula 1 circus returns to its European heartland was greeted by hot weather and sunny skies. The aim for today was to evaluate a series of small aerodynamic upgrades to the MP4-29, designed to counteract the handling problems that affected both cars in Shanghai.

The team were satisfied with the data collected today, and will use it in particular to improve long-run pace for the remainder of the weekend.
