MONACO GP – QUALIFYING

DANIEL RICCIARDO, Position: 3rd, (3rd Practice – P2, 1:16.808)
“I think I could have been closer to the front today and I don’t like it when that’s the case. I made a mistake in the last run in Q3; we were up and I thought it was going well, but then I made a mistake and lost the time I had made. Anyways, there’s no room for excuses here so I’ll just have to learn for next time. I would be disappointed not to finish on the podium tomorrow. I think we have the pace to hang with Mercedes, so hopefully we can at least get one of them off the line and maybe do something with strategy and give ourselves a real chance of taking a win.”

Work To Make It Work - 2014 Monaco GP, Saturday

Saturday 24th May

Romain Grosjean will start from fourteenth on the grid with Pastor Maldonado fifteenth after qualifying for tomorrow’s Monaco Grand Prix under blues skies on the streets of Monte Carlo. Both drivers went through the first qualifying session but were unable to find sufficient speed from the E22 in the twisty challenge of Monaco’s slow speed corners to make it into the top ten today.

Circuit de Monaco, Saturday May 24

A case of slightly mixed fortunes for McLaren today.

Kevin drove beautifully throughout all three qualifying sessions, establishing himself in a solid eighth position in Q1, Q2 and Q3. A position in the top 10, after a couple of difficult races for the team, was a great reward for Kevin, and sets him up well for an attacking race tomorrow.

McLAREN F1 - Spanish GP - Friday Practice

After the cold temperatures in China last month, the Formula 1 circus returns to its European heartland was greeted by hot weather and sunny skies. The aim for today was to evaluate a series of small aerodynamic upgrades to the MP4-29, designed to counteract the handling problems that affected both cars in Shanghai.

The team were satisfied with the data collected today, and will use it in particular to improve long-run pace for the remainder of the weekend.

Spanish Grand Prix Practice

Objectives: Aero Evaluations, Set-up and Tyre Work

FP1: Felipe Massa, 1:27.791 (10th), Felipe Nasr, 1:29.272 (14th)
FP2: Felipe Massa, 1:27.824 (8th), Valtteri Bottas, 1:28.698 (14th)

Rob Smedley, Head of Performance Engineering: It was a constructive day as we had a lot of work to do in terms of car set-up and tyre management as well as testing all the new pieces. We completed the tests we had planned and as a result all the parts we brought are working as expected or even better, which is key at a track like Barcelona where everyone is trying to find more downforce. We still have a lot of work to do in order to optimise our car set-up and the long run pace, and so that is the focus for this evening.

Sun Is Shining - 2014 Spanish GP, Friday Friday 9th May

Romain Grosjean and Pastor Maldonado completed a strong day of evaluation runs during the first day of the Spanish Grand Prix. The Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya provided a delightfully warm backdrop for the opening practice sessions where Pastor ran in the top ten all day although Romain did not have as easy a time finding pace from his E22.

“It’s nice not to have gone backwards during the short break and I think we have shown improvement; we want to close the gap to Mercedes but they don’t seem to be showing any signs of slowing down! It’s not great that Seb wasn’t running, two cars means twice the amount of feedback for the team and you don’t learn so much from one when you are trying new parts – but at least we got some good data. The short runs and long runs were both okay today.”

MERCEDES - Monaco GP - Race

Monaco - 25/05/2014

RACE

Nico Rosberg and Lewis Hamilton took a dramatic one-two finish this afternoon at the 2014 Monaco Grand Prix.

Nico Rosberg
It was a tough race out there today but I am absolutely delighted to have won my second Monaco Grand Prix in succession. It's an amazing feeling and I'm proud to have done it at home, in front of my family and friends who were all here this afternoon. The race started well and I was comfortable but then we had to manage my fuel consumption and Lewis was pushing really hard behind me. We were able to be in control of the fuel with a few laps of lift and coast. It was important for me to break Lewis' momentum of winning the last four races this weekend. That worked out very well, but it was a really tough weekend. I'm so happy for the team that we had another one-two finish and look forward to the party tonight!

WILLIAMS - Indian GP Preview

Xevi Pujolar, Chief Race Engineer: The Indian Grand Prix takes place at the Buddh International Circuit, which was new on the calendar for the 2011 season. With fast, free-flowing and undulating characteristics the track has drawn comparisons to Spa-Francorchamps with the track rising by 14-metres within the first three corners. The track has a mixture of fast and slow corners making it challenging for the drivers, with the multi-apex sequence of Turns 10, 11 and 12 likened to Turn 8 at the Istanbul Park Circuit in Turkey. The Indian Grand Prix features one of the longest pitlanes in F1 and this contributes to a higher than average pitloss which pushes strategies towards fewer stops. Track temperatures are likely to be relatively high and to date there has never been a safety car in the race. After finishing just outside the points in recent races, the team will be pushing hard until the very last race of the season to score a top ten finish.

Kimi Räikkönen: “We’ll keep pushing”
Our Finn heads to India looking forward to the cuisine and hoping for a stronger qualifying position than of late

What do you think of the Buddh International Circuit?
It’s quite an interesting track; one of the better ones from the modern circuits. It’s quite similar to Korea; long straights, not terribly challenging corners and hard braking. It’s not as technical as Korea which was another new track for me last year, but it’s good. It’s always nice to go to a new place like India. It’s certainly a good track to go fast with a strong car in front of all the others!
