Jason Allgaier Dominates and Wins Nashville Xfinity Race

LEBANON, TN – RIS – Jason Allgaier led all but 53 laps to win the NASCAR Xfinity Series race at Nashville Superspeedway on Saturday.  In the end it was Allgaier holding off former Daytona 500 champion Trevor Bayne for the win.  It was the second win and 10th top-10 finish of the season for the 36-year-old Allgaier, who is from nearby Spaulding, Illinois.

It was Allgaier's 18th career Xfinity Series win and 15th with JR Motorsports. Allgaier took the lead from Xfinity Series points standings leader A.J. Allmendinger on lap 159 and led the rest of the way.

“What a heck of a race,” he said. “I’ve been coming to this track a long time and I’ve been trying to get to Victory Lane so bad and just haven’t been able to do it. Today was for the dirt racers, though. It was slick. It was hot. Just sliding around. … That was the best car I’ve ever had. This is just so much fun right now.”

Allgaier has won two of the last five races. He’s finished no worse than seventh in the last six races. He won both stages in his dominant victory for JR Motorsports. That’s the first time this year that a driver has won both stages and the race.

Bayne, driving a limited schedule for Joe Gibbs Racing, finished second. Riley Herbst finished third and was followed by Ty Gibbs and Sam Mayer. Ryan Preece, who won Friday’s Camping World Truck Series race at Nashville, finished sixth.

Allgaier found his way to the front early, won the first two stages, led 134 of 188 laps and easily topped Trevor Bayne by 4.513 seconds to claim the victory.

Several top contenders elected to wait until late in the final stage to make their final pit stop for tires and fuel, but Allgaier was among the group that pit under caution as soon his No. 7 JR Motorsports team was within its pit window.

On new tires he ran down then-leader A.J. Allmendinger to reclaim the lead on Lap 149 and led the final 40 laps, which went caution-free.
