Briscoe Wins his Second Straight Xfinity Race of 2020 on the Road Course at Indy

INDIANAPOLIS, IN – RIS – Chase Briscoe dreamed of running at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.  The kid from Indiana wanted to win there in a stock car like Tony Stewart did.  It happened in a wild run on the road course at Indy.  The winner was celebrating and kissing the bricks on a day where he almost gave it away but fought back and won.

Briscoe led for 30 of the 62 laps, but a missed turn while leading with three laps to go left him in third place behind A.J. Allmendinger and fellow Ford driver Austin Cindric.  Little did he know that Allmendinger and Cindric would get into battle where sheet metal was damaged.  The driver of the No. 98 Ford Mustang waited until the other two got into it, drove a perfect lap, and got by both and on to victory.

“I wish fans were here,” Briscoe said. “That’s tough. I wish they could have been here to share that because it may never happen again.”

Not likely.  It was Briscoe’s fifth win of the season, his second straight win, and has proven he can come from behind time and time again.

“I just can’t believe I won at Indianapolis,” Briscoe said. “It’s still not as prestigious as winning on the oval, but to be the first to do something here, it’s still special — especially when you grow up less than an hour from here.”

In the carnage of Lap 61, Briscoe moved out to a big leas on that final lap as Cindric and Allmendinger battled so hard that Noah Gragson wound up third while Allmendinger and Cindric faded to fourth and fifth as they battled and bumped around the 14-turn, 2.439-mile course over the final two laps.

I thought it was a great show,” Haley said after getting to witness the battle from behind the leaders. “I really enjoyed it, it was fun to come and learn and I was really excited to be here. It’s my home track, it’s “We were kind of chasing down the top three and had a bad pit stop,” Haley said. “So, when they started racing, it made me able to catch them quicker at.” Briscoe’s home track.” Haley finished second.

Regardless, it was a tremendous day for Briscoe even though he wished there were fans in the stands to help him celebrate.

“Every week, I’ve talked about how the fans make winning fun and the last couple times, I didn’t really celebrate because I don’t get hyped up,” he said. “But to win here at Indianapolis, driving for my hero, with (interim crew chief) Greg Zipadelli in my box, it’s just unbelievable.”
