Allgaier Sweeps at Richmond

Justin Allgaier goes three-wide

(RICHMOND, VA - SEP 12, 2020 - RIS) The Virginia is for Racing Lovers 250 checkered flag went to Justin Allgaier, completing a sweep of the weekend for the No. 7 car after he won the Friday evening race and moving him ahead of Austin Cindric in total laps led for the season. Jeb Burton followed in second, with Ross Chastain third, Harrison Burton, Noah Gragson, Justin Haley, Michael Annett, Brandon Jones, Kaz Grala and Austin Cindric completing the top ten.

Race two in the NASCAR Xfinity Series double-header at Richmond started with an interesting grid: Tommy Joe Martins in the first position, flanked by Brandon Jones, with Matt Mills and Ryan Sieg in the second row, thanks to the inversion of the top fifteen finishers from Friday's race. Brandon Jones wasted no time in taking the lead, then on lap 17, Chase Briscoe assumed the lead with Kaz Grala following into second place until Noah Gragson moved into second and then the lead in short order.

Grala, Briscoe and Haley raced three wide for second for a couple of laps until Haley towed Justin Allgaier through for second and third places droppig Briscoe and Grala to fourth and fifth just before the competition caution on lap 40.

Allgaier held on to take the first stage, then Chastain took the lead at the restart until Allgaier got around and back to first place after Chastain had led more than 80 laps.

Colby Howard brought out a caution on lap 139 when he hit the wall, with Allgaier leading Gragson on the inside lane at the restart with just six laps left in the stage. Justin Haley swept the outside for the lead but Chastain tried unsuccessfully to hold the lead, with Chastain taking the stage win for the second time in the 2020 season.

Jeb Burton took the lead and held on with Allgaier, Chastain, Cindric and Gragson in pursuit until Allgaier took the lead thanks to fresh tires, on lap 171, scored with the lead starting on lap 172. Meanwhile, Austin Cindric, racing for the regular season points lead, kept letting cars around and falling back in the field but his rival for the title, Chase Briscoe, was falling back more.

Riley Herbst crashed out of twelfth place after he moved across Brandon Brown's front end, sending Herbst into the wall. The entire field on the lead lap pitted for tires with Allgaier leading the pack off of pit road with Jeb Burton's crew sending him out into second place ahead of Chastain, Justin Haley, Harrison Burton, Noah Gragson, Brandon Jones, Michael Annett, Cindric and Grala in the top ten heading to the choose spot on the front straight.

The restart with 13 laps to run had Allgaier springing to the lead and holding it, building the gap to just over two seconds at the checkered flag.

"I knew how good our car was all day," said the victor in post-race interviews. "I knew we had speed, I knew when we wanted to go we could."

"At the beginning of the year, we sat down as a team at the beginning of the year and we all wrote down top three goals, said Cindric following the race. "I'm not a big proponent of setting goals, but my number one was the regular season championship. At the end of the day, it's mission accomplished, for sure."
