Zane Smith Victor in Career Dover Truck Debut

Zane Smith taking the checkered flag

(DOVER DE - AUG 21, 2020 - RIS) Zane Smith goes one for one in trucks at Dover. Rookie Zane Smith scored his second career NASCAR Gander RV & Outdoors Truck Series race, taking the victory at the 'Monster Mile'. Smith's first series win was at Michigan, two weeks earlier.

Brett Moffitt started on the pole for the KDI Office Technology 200, then on lap 7, Tate Fogleman spun in the third turn to bring out the first caution of the race. Moffitt and Matt Crafton picked the outside lane under the new 'Choose' rule while Austin Hill took the inside but Crafton managed to ease ahead of him to keep second place.

Points leader Austin Hill grabbed the lead after the competition caution on lap 20 and held on to take the stage win on lap 45, followed by Matt Crafton, Tyler Ankrum, Zane Smith and Brett Moffitt. This is Hill's second stage win of the season.

Chandler Smith cycled into the lead after the stage end, holding it until Kelby Kraus used lapped traffic to zip around for the lead on lap 80. Zane Smith took second place with Christian Eckes just under a second back of Zane Smith and Ben Rhodes in fifth. Chandler Smith and Christian Eckes, fighting for position, as they approached Jordan Anderson's truck, with the resulting spin by Smith clipping Ben Rhodes, ending the stage under the caution flag with Zane Smith ahead of Kraus, Eckes, Moffitt and Creed.

Christian Eckes headed Todd Gilliland at the start of the final stage with the real battling going on behind him until lap 129 when Brett Moffitt took the lead from him. Zane Smith took the lead from Moffitt on lap 155 then Moffitt was the first truck on pit road, followed by Smith. As pit stops cycled, Smith regained the lead, then with fewer than 20 laps left, Brett Moffitt started challenging for the lead. Stewart Friesen spun inside the last ten laps to cause a late race restrart with only ten trucks on the lead lap. Smith led at the restart with four to go, as Matt Crafton jumped into second place but Smith went on to defeat the Monster Mile in his first start on the concrete oval. Crafton took second, with Moffitt, Gilliland and Ben Rhodes in the top five with Rhodes taking on new tires in the final caution to jump ahead of numerous competitors.

"I want that trophy so bad," he said, referring to the "Miles the Monster" special trophy from Dover. "I think we all know I suck at restarts but I picked a good time to have a good one.
"Two wins, this is by far the most fun I've ever had," added the happy 21-year-old after the race.

"At that point, you've got to risk the win," said third place finisher Brett Moffitt about the late race restart. "I didn't get a good launch and the 21 did," he added.
