Creed Earns $50,000 Bonus at Daytona

(DAYTONA BEACH, FL - AUG 16, 2020 - RIS) Sheldon Creed withstood a green-white-checker overtime restart challenge from fellow GMS Racing driver Brett Moffitt to win his second race of the season.

Today's event is the first race of the Triple Truck Challenge. A $50,000 bonus goes to the day's winner, then the challenge continues at Dover International Speedway next weekend and again at World Wide Technology Raceway. If a driver wins two of the races, they earn a $150,000 paycheck. A driver winning all three events would earn a $500,000 bonus.

Zane Smith led the Sunoco 150 NASCAR Gander RV & Outdoors Truck Series under the green flag but he overshot the first turn and dropped well back in teh field. The first caution in the race came out for Mark Smith's stalled truck and the end of Stage One with Brett Moffitt taking the bonus points for the stage 'win.' Sheldon Creed, Christian Eckes, Austin Hill and Todd Gilliland rounded out the top five at the end of the stage.

Leader Matt Crafton wheel hopped on the entry to Turn Six, the exit from the infield, fading back in the field as the second stage wound down. Sheldon Creed led but guest driver Alex Tagliani moved up to third in the field, and Creed came within a fraction of giving the stage lead away to Austin Hill when he slowed, thinking that the stage was over before his crew radioed to him to keep going.

Raphael Lessard had the lead on the restart for the final stage with Alex Tagliani challenging on the outside entering the infield but Lessard held off the challenge, leading until he locked up and slid into the front straight chicane and gave up several positions with the error. Matt Crafton took the lead, chased by Brett Moffitt with Tagliani, Parker Kligerman and Sheldon Creed the rest of the top five.

Moffitt passed Crafton down the back straight just before a caution flew for Jordan Anderson's stalled truck. Kennedy started feeling ill during the race and Josh Reaume was at the wheel when the truck stopped.

Creed opened up a lead of over six seconds before the caution flew with five laps left for Derek Kraus' stalled truck in the infield. He held the lead on the restart with three laps left, chased by Moffitt and Crafton. Multiple spins on the first lap were self-clearing but 17-year-old Carson Hocevar coasted to a halt in the infield grass with damage to the right rear, bringing out a caution and an overtime finish with the teammates Creed and Moffitt on the front row.

Creed held onto the lead over Moffitt with less than a length between the trucks entering the chicanes but he seemed able to open the gap on the straights. Creed ran a near-flawless last lap to beat out Moffitt and earn his second career win as a Christian Eckes and Stewart Friesen crashed on the front straight while more trucks spun in the final chicane approaching the checkered flag. Raphael Lessard followed the teammates across the line in third, followed by Matt Crafton and Austin Hill.

"Brett's really good on road courses and he's helped me so much on the simulator..." said Creed after the race. "It was all about not making a mistake there and he tried to cross me up a few times in three and five and I just stopped mid corner so he couldn't get his run."
