INDY 500 - Pole/Bump Day at Indy, Rain May Win

Will Fernando Alonso make the race? RIS/Don Andersen

INDIANAPOLIS - RIS - May 19, 2019 - It is Pole/Bump Day at Indy. The last row cars are on track for practice. They will get 30 minutes of running followed by just one shot at getting into the show.

That brings us to the weather, in a word, scary! There will be storms getting to the Speedway around noon. The schedule calls for the Last Row Shootout at 12:15 and the Fast Nine shootout for the first three rows at 1:15. It would not surprise us to see that pushed up a bit because of the weather threat.

Track conditions right now are way better than yesterday. Much cooler and cloudy. We would not be surprised to see the last row speeds well in excess of several cars that are locked into the show from yesterday.

Fernando Alonso’s car was just tow in because of sparks coming from the rear of the car. It looked to be simply low ride hight.

Both James Hinchcliffe and Sage Karam are running above 228 mph.

With six minutes left in the session a very light rain has made an appearance  at IMS.

From the looks of things Alonso seems to be in trouble. Things have not gone well for the McLaren team this month. They had a big crash during practice, that required going to the backup car in an overnight thrash. Since then they simply have not had a chance to get t up to speed.
