BRAKES Breakfast Biggest Yet at zMAX
(CONCORD, NC – APRIL 28, 2018 – RIS) The annual Nitro and Pancakes breakfast to benefit B.R.A.K.E.S., a free teen safe driving school, set records in every category Saturday morning. Held annually in the Don Schumacher Racing hospitality area, the fund raising event “was the biggest ever,” according to charity director Matt Reilly.

“It was awesome,” he added, stating that cooking “started about 6:00 Saturday morning and we didn’t stop until 10:30,” a full half hour after the event was slated to close.

For their donation, supporters got treated to all you can eat pancakes, bacon and sausage, cooked and served by some of the NHRA’s biggest stars. Those who didn’t cook or serve often show up for breakfast and to regale the crowd with stories about things that never get mentioned in press releases. Some of those stars attending and swapping stories included Antron Brown, Tony Schumacher, Clay Millican, Terry McMillen, Angelle Sampey, Rickie Smith and Connie Kalitta, plus Kalitta’s nephew, Doug. 

Preparations for the event included cooking some fifty pounds of bacon and thirty pounds of sausage for the hungry hordes.

Put On The B.R.A.K.E.S. (Be Responsible And Keep Everyone Safe) is a non-profit 501(c)3 whose mission is to prevent injuries and save lives by training and educating teenage drivers and their parents about the importance of safe and responsible driving.

Training sessions last four hours and are held in multiple locations across the country. Graduates of the schools have shown a statistically significant 64 percent reduction in crash rates compared to the same age group without the benefit of the training which includes skid recovery, recovery from dropping a tire off the pavement, ABS and accident avoidance experience, plus more.
