INDY 500 - Bump Day Saturday and Maybe, Sunday too?

Indianapolis - RIS - May 18, 2018 - After James Davidson made contact with the Turn two wall, the question, naturally, came up about qualifications starting tomorrow.

We will attempt to make this convoluted and frankly contrived, rule clear.

If the AJ Foyt/Hollinger/Belardi Team can not repair the number 33 in time to make a qualification attempt on “Bump Day” tomorrow, “At Race Control’s Option” they may be allowed to make one attempt on Sunday.

If they were to bump the slowest car from the Saturday times, then that car, the car that ran 33rd fastest, will get one attempt to “Re-bump” itself back into the field on Sunday.

Of course, remember all times from Saturday, are thrown out, and each of the fastest Saturday qualifiers, must re-qualify on Sunday, but for only the starting position on the race day grid.

However, the fast nine from Saturday, will also run on Sunday, and are the only cars that can compete for the pole.

Now, this is all subject to whatever Race Control decides...as they go along!
Folks, you simply can’t make this stuff up!
