Sauter Adds Another Daytona Truck Victory

Sauter Claims Daytona Trucks Checkered Flag

(DAYTONA BEACH, FL – 16 FEB, 2018 – RIS) Johnny Sauter held off challenges to win an emotional victory for Joe Shear. Sauter's crew chief lost his wife suddenly last December and the team was racing in Chandra's memory. The win was Sauter's third race victory at Daytona.

The race tonight marked the first competition appearance of NASCAR's new NT1 spec engine for the truck series.

Travis Kvapil's blown engine brought out the first caution of the NextEra Energy Sources 250 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race after only three laps. Kvapil had moved up in the field but  left a cloud of smoke behind his truck that would do a mosquito fogging truck proud.

David Gilliland headed the first stage and Johnny Sauter led at the end of the second stage, with all the major incidents

With just six laps left, Spencer Davis got into the rear bumper of David Gilliland with Gilliland slapping the wall and pitting with right side damage for tires. Before this, Gilliland had led 30 laps before finishing with only 95 laps scored.

As the field finished the race, Spencer Davis and Jordan Anderson spun under the checkered flag but were still classed as finishing on the lead lap with top ten positions.

Four of the five racing cautions occurred in the final stage of the race, with the final one on lap 83 also causing a red flag period for cleanup.
