Rookie, William Byron, Wins 7th Annual Pocono Mountains 150

William Byron climbs out of the Liberty University Toyota in Pocono International Raceway after besting the 7th Annual Pocono Mountains 150.

Long Pond, PA - RIS - William Byron runs to a solid victory in at 7th Annual Pocono Mountains 150. Commanding the field, the weather, and way too many caution laps; like 27 of 60 laps, the Rookie does one great job.  For the fifth time in his Rookie season he takes a Checkered Flag in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series. Notch another win for the Kyle Busch Motorsports racing team.

Byron’s first run at Pocono International Raceway came just last month when he drove in the ARCA Racing Series event. He stated that he learned how flat the track is compared to most tracks they take the trucks to. He really likes the long straights and the tight turns and he learned that hitting his marks and keeping a solid rhythm helps tremendously. He feels that the trickiest part of the track is the tunnel turn; of which most drivers will totally agree, as it will either make you or break you as far as time is concerned. The hardest…. Strategy! It’s such a short race and that translate to only one Pit Stop, but never count on that actually happening at Pocono.

This young winner has had a mere 12 races in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series and has won five times already. Now this is his Rookie Season, but he did run in one event last season at Phoenix International Raceway and finished 31st in that event.

To round out the top five, un-officially it was #13 Cameron Hayley in 2nd with #11 Brett Moffitt, #17 Timothy Peters, and #00 Cole Custer; another Rookie, round out the top five. All results will be verified by NASCAR later.

Though William Byron was involved in a race with 31 other drivers he was also racing the weather, which was alleged to catch the race at about 2:00 EDT and he even crushed that. Most tracks in Eastern Pennsylvania have cancelled for the night, but the fans who made Pocono its choice for the weekend made a great choice for sure.

See you at the track.
