Busch is Two-for-Two at Indy, Winning the Sprint Cup Pole after Winning the Xfinity Pole

INDIANAPOLIS -RIS- (July 23, 2016)  Finishing an impressive 2016 Indianapolis two-fer, Kyle Busch won the NASCAR Sprint Cup Coors Light pole for tomorrow’s running of the 23rd Annual Crown Royal presents the Combat Wounded Coalition 400 at the Brickyard (aka the Brickyard 400) at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

An hour earlier, Busch won the pole for today’s Xfinity Series Race.

Busch, winner of last year’s Brickyard 400, won the pole with a speed of 184.634 mph - his 19th NASCAR Sprint Cup Series pole. It is his second pole of the 2016 series. His previous best start was seventh in 2012.

Busch’s #18 Skittles Toyota beat Carl Edwards’ #19 Stanley Toyota in the third round of qualifying today. Edwards qualified at 184.547 mph, 0.023 seconds behind the leader.

Edwards was last year’s polesitter.

In his final competition visit to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, where he has raced in both the Indy Racing League (Verizon IndyCar Series) and NASCAR Sprint Cup between 1996 and 2016, Tony Stewart will start third in the #14 Mobil 1 / Chevy Summer Selldown Chevrolet.

Toyota’s Denny Hamlin will take the green flag beside Stewart, in the #11 FedEx Express Toyota.

Sprint Cup series points leader, Kevin Harvick, starts seventh - two positions behind second-in-points Brad Keselowski, starting fifth.

Chase Elliott is the fastest rookie in the field, and will start 15th.

Subbing for injured Dale Earnhardt, Jr., five-time Brickyard 400 winner Jeff Gordon (’94, ’98, ’01, ’04, ’14) will start the #88 Axalta Chevy from 21st position.

The Brickyard 400 will roll off at 3:00 tomorrow afternoon.
