ROSSBURG, OHIO -RIS- It is billed as the as the “Mother Of All Sprint Car Weekends” and it started with wins for Robert Ballou and Donny Schatz in the USAC National and World of Outlaws 30 lap Friday features.

The USAC events lead the schedule with Robert Ballou qualifying sixth and stating on the outside first row, next to Jon Stanbrough. Ballou took the lead at the start and went on to win his fourth feature in 2015 leading wire-to-wire. Stanbrough chased Ballou through the whole race but was never able to launch a serious attack.

Ballou credited the hard work of his crew for his performance as they had made a rushed engine change after the second heat race after the engine disappointed in qualifying and the heat.

The track started off wet and appeared to get faster as qualifying proceeded with four of the top five qualifiers being in the last third of order. Chase Stockon was the fastest 15.587 seconds. Despite further grooming the track was dusty by the start of the feature and was even worse by the end of the Outlaw event. Bandon Mattox flipped during the first lap of his qualifying run and Jarett Andretti flipped in his heat race. Brady Bacon, who raced in both USAC and WoO series got credit for a flip in his heat but really just hit the second turn wall and got some pilot time. Brady also was out of the USAC feature with contact. He did better with a win finishing tenth in the WoO main.

There were 37 qualifiers for the winged outlaws and winner Donny Schatz started on the outside front row and trailed pole starter Kerry Madsen for the first 13 laps before taking the lead and the win. Shane Stewart started fourth and followed Donny in second place while Rico Abreu started and finished in third.

The track was very dusty at the end of the night and Kraig Kinser and Randy Hannagan both lost right rear tires during the race. Paul McMahan was the fast qualifier at 12.913 seconds.

“We came into tonight just trying to get our selfs qualified well. We did that. Get our selfs throught the heat, we did that. Get forward in the dash, We did that. Try and get that win and we did that. Tomorrows a new day and we got to go back and learn from the mistakes we made tonight and try and make things a little better, and we'll proabally have a celebration drink or two, you got to celebrate them. You never know when your last ones going to be so you enjoy every one of them that comes along.” Said Schatz on the winner's podium.

Saturday night Donny Schats and Robert Ballou will be trying to repeat and a lot of other drivers will be trying to stop them on this same Eldora track.
