Jon Stanbrough Takes Sprint Week Opener

ISW 2014 #1GAS CITY, IN JULY 11, 2014 -RIS- Jon Stanbrough was in the winners circle for the second year in a row as he captured the Sprint week opening race at Gas City I-69 Speedway. Starting on the pole, Stanbrough lead every lap on an unusually slick track which made passing nearly impossible. Running on the bottom the whole race Stanbrough had Justin Grant near him for all of the 30 lap feature.

“The car was good. I don't know if we were the best car out there. I couldn't see behind us. I think it was right around the bottom. You know it was good enough to win. It was really good off the bottom coming out of one and two. The car was good, I was just struggling to get off of four a little bit. I got hit in the rear end a few times, maybe because I wasn't getting off there good. I can't complain, the car was really good it was just me trying to find the line and get of of there good.” Said Stanbrough.

It was disappointing to most everyone but Stanbrough because the event had started with such promise. Fifty three cars were there with racy action in the heats and preliminaries. Dave Darland was the fast qualifier at 12.093 seconds. Coons, Short, Ballou and Clauson were the heat race winners. The last chance race saw Shane Cottle win and go on to the semi where he came from 19th to finish fifth.

The B also saw the most serious accident of the evening as Jeff Bland flipped heavily in turn two.

Saturday is day two of 2014 Indiana Sprint Week and it will be Kokomo Speedway, a venue which rarely dissapoints.
