CHRIS CARR TO COMPETE AT THE SACRAMENTO MILE FOR THE LAST TIME

Sacramento, Calif…When the Sacramento Mile thunders into action, Saturday, July 30 at Cal Expo, it will mark the last time that Sacramento fans will see the legendary Chris Carr tackle the famed mile.

Retiring at the end of this season, Carr is excited about returning to Sacramento. It is a track that has been good to him in the past.  In fact, he has won the mile nine times, 1987, 1990, 1991 (2 events), 1992, 1993 (2 events), 1995 and 1999.

Born and raised in Stockton, Calif., Carr has been racing since he was six years old.  His dad was an amateur racer and both his parents were members of the Lodi Motorcycle Club.  Living close to the Lodi Cycle Bowl provided Carr with a track to practice on and he spent numerous hours perfecting his skill.

Creating a name for himself from the very start, Carr began climbing the ladder of success. By the time he was 17 he had earned numerous Northern California and national amateur titles and was turning lap times comparable to the top riders.

Turning pro in 1983, Carr holds the distinction of being the second winningest rider in AMA Pro Flat Track history with a total of 78 victories and 7 Grand National Championships.

In addition to his numerous mile, half-mile, short track and TT victories and championships, Carr also made history in 2006 when he set the record as the fastest motorcycle rider in the world cracking the 350 mph barrier at the Bonneville Salt Flats.

“Running at Sacramento is really like coming home,” says Carr, who is currently ranked i7th in the AMA Pro Harley-Davidson Insurance combined GNC Championship points battle.  “The fans are great and I still have lots of friends in the area who come out to the races.”

And there is nothing that Carr would like more than to make this his 10th Sacramento Mile victory.

“It would definitely be awesome to earn the glory,” smiles Carr.  “Winning here is definitely special and, it would make July 30th a perfect day.”

However, not only does Carr want the checkered, but so do all the other riders on the circuit. 

While it is impossible to predict the outcome of a race, the one thing that can be predictable is that the action will be fast and furious when they take to the track in an all out attempt to win the Sacramento Mile.

Gates open at 1:30 pm.  Riders will run practice in the afternoon with open ceremonies taking place at 6:30 pm.  Racing begins at 7:00 pm.  A special autograph session will be held immediately following the last practice.  Fans can meet their favorite riders, take pictures and get autographs.

Advance ticket prices are $85 for the Turf Club, $75 for the Legends Club House, $65 for Box Seats and $50 for Reserved Grandstands.  All tickets are $10 more at the gate.  All tickets also include same day admission to the Fair.
