Popular Amateur Day Racing Program Supports
2011 Lucas Oil Motocross Championship

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (April 25, 2011) - The core of motocross in America has long been rooted in the strong amateur racing scene featuring the future stars of the sport. As American Motocross enters its 40th year of world-class competition, MX Sports Pro Racing and the National Promoters Group (NPG) announce the 2011 Amateur Days schedule that will run in conjunction with each round of this summer's Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship.

For 12 weeks, the world's best riders engage in battle on the track for over 60 minutes across two grueling motos each Saturday afternoon, but before and after the pros take to the track, amateurs and enthusiasts of all ages and skill levels will have their chance to be a part of the outdoor nationals. Whether it's racing bar-to-bar, or just enjoying a Sunday ride on the track, motocross lovers from all over the country can be a part of American Motocross through the Amateur Day Program and, in some cases, will even have the chance to compete on the same hallowed ground as the stars of the sport.

"Amateur Days were some of my greatest memories with my family," said defending Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross 450 Class Champion Ryan Dungey. "There was nothing like racing the week of a national and then watching all the riders I looked up to compete on the same track. It brought an end to a perfect week and the best part about it was that I was able to enjoy it with my mom, my dad and my brothers."

"The family atmosphere and the bond amongst loved ones is an underlying foundational element of the Amateur Day Program," said MX Sports Vice President Davey Coombs. "On any given weekend, hundreds of campgrounds will be set up as families come to the track together and more often that not, compete together simply out of love for the sport."

The 2011 Amateur Day schedule kicks off on Thursday, May 19, during the opening weekend of the season at the Rockstar Energy Hangtown Motocross Classic in Rancho Cordova, Calif. From there, 10 additional weekends will give amateurs from all over the country a one-of-a-kind chance to ride, which only takes place once a year, before coming to a conclusion during Labor Day weekend on September 2-4 from Steel City in Delmont, Pa.

Also on Labor Day weekend, Pala Raceway will be hosting an amateur event for Southern Californians looking for their chance to take to the track one week prior to the season finale from the facility on September 10.
